An index to Scripture passages is one of the most useful features of electronic resources designed for theological research.
The Kroemer Library offers several sites that have such an index. In this tutorial, we will take a look at:
Throughout this tutorial, keep an eye out for text in bold which will be a marker for an action you can perform, and for underlined Keywords which you can click for more information.
Also keep in mind, you can click any of the images in this tutorial pane to make them bigger and easier to see.
To advance this tutorial click the arrow below. You can also navigate using the arrow keys on your keyboard. You can always return to previous pages if you need to review any materials.
The ATLA Religion Index covers journal articles, books and chapters of books in the fields of Religion and Christian Theology.
Normally, you can find a like to the ATLA Index under Bibliographies and Indexes on the Kroemer Library resources page.
So that you don't lose this tutorial, click here to proceed: ATLA Index.
Note: If you are off campus, you will be asked to sign in before you are able to access the ATLA Index. You can sign in using your library barcode and password.
The EBSCOHost search page will appear next. It is set to search the ATLA Religion Index. You can see the text above the search box says, “Searching: ATLA Religion Database with ATLA Serials.”
There are several links in the navigation menu at the top left of the page.
Click the “Scriptures” link in this menu.
There will next appear a list of the books of the Bible.
For the purposes of this tutorial, let's look for articles about Genesis 3:15.
Click on “[Expand]” next to “Genesis.”
A list of the chapters in Genesis will appear in the window. Click “[Expand]” next to “Chapter 3.”
A list of the Verses in Genesis 3 will appear. Find and click on Verse 15.
ATLA Religion Index will now search for articles and chapters that discuss Genesis 3:15.
Many of the results will be available in full text which you may view by clicking “PDF Full Text.”
If you are interested in articles from a whole chapter or a whole book, you may click the chapter number or book name for those results instead of clicking on expand. These results may be overly broad, however, so it is often best to narrow your search down to a chapter or verse.
The CTSFW Media Site contains a variety of articles, booklets, books, video and audio related to theology.
You can get to the Media Site using the link under “Electronic Collections” on the Kroemer Library resources page.
You can also type media.ctsfw.edu into your browser. So that you don’t lose this tutorial, click here: media.ctsfw.edu
This site is open to the internet, so you will not need a username and password to use it.
Once you are on the Media Server home page, look for the Browse Titles By... drop down menu. It is in the upper left hand corner of the window.
Click "Browse Titles By..."
Next, Select "Scripture Verses" from the dropdown menu.
A page will appear with the books of the Bible listed in the left column, a center column for the display of chapters and a right column for the display of verses.
Let's look for resources on Genesis 3:15.
Select Genesis in the left column menu. A column will appear in the center with chapter numbers displayed.
Click 3 in the center column to select chapter three. A column will appear on the right with verse numbers displayed.
Click 15 in the right column to select verse 15. Note, the boxes for the individual verses also displays the number of titles related to that verse.
After you click verse 15, a page will display listing all the resources in the Media Site on Genesis 3:15. The number of results for a given scripture verse is growing all the time as we continue to add content to our Media Site.
This concludes the tutorial. You should now know how to find items based on a specific scripture verse in both the ATLA Serials database and the CTSFW Media Site.
